Why Your Drivetrain Light Is Coming On For Your BMW

On your BMW, there are strange lights that occasionally come up. One is the drivetrain malfunction light. This is a problem that is commonly referred to as "involving gremlins". There may be nothing wrong with your car, but it is a good idea to have it taken into your local BMW dealer or an auto repair shop, like August European, to have it looked at.

Water May Be In The Tank

If your car has a very hard, rough start, it is possible that you might have water in the gas. Fortunately, it is inexpensive to test this by adding Heet or an equivalent additive. However, depending on how much water is in the tank, the additive might not be enough. If there is a significant amount of water in the tank, you will want to have the entire volume of gas replaced because the amount of damage done to the engine will be much greater than the cost of replacing the gas.

It Might Be Cold Outside

If you have had any cold weather issues recently, this might be part of the problem. If you have an engine heater installed, this might help resolve the problem.

There Might Be A Mechanical Problem

Check the menu to determine if the mileage range is less than 30 miles. If this turns out to be the case, it might be a good idea to have your car taken to a BMW repair specialist just in case. It's possible that you might experience a loss of power and your car might jerk or stall. Until it is checked out, it is recommended that you do not take your car for a long trip. Ask the BMW repair technician if he or she can look at the HPFP. There may be a fuel injector failure. There is also a chance that there is something wrong with a fuel sensor, so they should be tested and replaced if necessary.

It May Be Nothing

If the dealership cannot find anything wrong with the drivetrain, it is recommended that you simply let the car sit overnight and then start it. There is a good chance that the drivetrain light will go away after this. It may also be necessary to have a software update. It is common for this indicator to come on erroneously when you are low on gas. The problem can sometimes result from when the battery is too low.
